Established in 1994, Aiken Psychiatric and Psychotherapy Associates (APPA) serves the mental heath needs of Aiken and other cities and counties in the Central Savannah River Region of South Carolina and Georgia. The professionals in APPA are educated in the medical and psychotherapeutic treatments of psychiatric disorders including depression, anxiety, panic disorder, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, drug and alcohol abuse, attention deficit disorder, physical or sexual trauma, marital and family issues and other mental health problems. Founding APPA members include David Steiner, MD; Nan Moorer, LISW; and Carl Carlin, LPC. Barbara Snyder, LISW; Michelle Knapik-Smith APRN; Jim Donovan, DSW; John Alex Allen, MD; Patrica Ryan, LISW and Jim Poole, LISW all subsequently joined APPA. Each member has areas of special interests, training and expertise.
